MY BIO

Everything Designer

I graduated Parsons The New School of Design in May 2018 with a BFA in Fashion Design. I got into fashion as my father was working as a pattern cutter in the district. During my stay at Parsons, I have been through the two phases of design in Fashion. At first, it was just about a concept, topic, or inspiration and many continuous drawings. But now, I believe there is more purpose and meaning to the designs and choices. That is why I believe my work has also changed in the way of serving a purpose. It is about convoking a debate or an argument, opinion or view, and making a statement.

MY THOUGHTS ON FASHION

Opinion

From the beginning, I have been concentrating on mostly womenswear. But now, my clothing is not gender specific. It is problem specific. My main purpose is to solve or make statements of problems in society. Whether it be about textile waste, beauty, physical problems of birth defects and herniated disk, I have tried solving these issues through thorough research. I believe every choice from color, silhouette, fabric, etc. needs to have a reason and I able to choose through extensive research. Research is one of my favorite things to do and it lead every choice. I start my projects with background research from history, culture, etc. than sampling and experiment. Textile experimenting is a huge part of my research process as well and it is something I greatly enjoy. During my stay in Parsons, I studied on topics from knitting, weaving, dyeing, felting and even digital printing and during these studies, I would incorporate and play with contrast, either with fabrics and structures, symmetry and asymmetry. As a piece of clothing it is all about comfort and as an art piece it is about convoking a debate/argument. I tend to create my own fabrics by dyeing, manipulating, embroidering, etc. to cater to my own creative design.

Now, fashion design is no longer about the look but rather its’ purpose and function. There needs to be a reason for every decision and the decisions are based off research and I believe more time should be in the research than the finish product itself.
